Kim Ki-Duk Parte I (Spa.) - Kim Ki-Duk Part I (Eng.)

Kim Ki-Duk nació en 1960 en Bonghwa, la pronvicia norte de Gyeongsang (Sur de la provincia de Gangwon). Se traslado con 9 años a Seúl con su familia, donde fue al colegio hasta los 17 años cuando empezó a trabajar en una fabrica. Sirvió 5 años para la marina coreana. Terminar su paso por el ejercito, paso dos años en una iglesia para disminuidos visuales con la idea de convertirse en predicador. Por aquel entonces,1990, cogió todo su dinero y se compro un billete a Paris donde vivió dos años vendiendo pinturas en la calle. Allí fue al cine por primera vez, donde el Silencio de los corderos y Los amantes del puente nuevo le marcaron especialmente.

Después de volver a Corea, retomo su interés por el cine escribiendo para concursos locales de guiones. En 1993, ganó el mayor premio del Instituto educacional de guionistas por "A Painter and a Criminal Condemned to Death". A esto le siguió en 1994 el tercer premio en la KOFIC (el consejo de cine coreano, por aquel entonces la empresa promotora de películas coreanas) competición de guionistas por "Double Exposure", y el primer premio en la misma competición en 1995 por "Jaywalking"

In 1996, debutó con "Crocodile" y desde entonces ha hecho 16 largometrajes y un documental (Arirang):

Un personaje controvertido en su país, quizás el Almodovar coreano, donde muchos no le entienden sus ideas y visiones mientras otros, menos, adoran y siguen con fervor como es mi  caso.

KKD trata temas como el maltrato a la mujer (Bin Jip), la prostitución (Samaritan girl o Bad guy), la pederastia (The Bow)... Temas la mayoría taboos en una sociedad democráticamente joven y aún más tradicional de lo que los extranjeros o "westerns" pensamos. Otros temas por el contrario, están muy bien publicitados como es la proliferación de la cirugía estética (Time) donde la belleza se busca al estilo Nip/tuck  (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361217/) para parecerse a las occidentales (pensamiento occidental sobre este fenómeno)... pero este tema será mejor dejarlo para otro post.

A primera vista, me pregunto: Estos vieron el Bus de "Lo que necesito es amor" y lo han remodelado para "lo que necesitas es un buen Kimchi"?


La excusa de esta bonita excursión, de 52.000 kms. en 400 días según relata su webside, es para devolver el favor a todas aquellas culturas que han aportado algo en beneficio de Corea. Ahora, ellos nos quieren devolver esos favores (no se me ocurre ahora mucho: Louis Vuitton, McDonalds y Pizzas!!!? ) traiendonos el Kimchi, desde Rusia hasta Norte Ámerica, pasando por Asia central, Medio Oriente y Europa.


La iniciativa tiene pinta de seria: Hyundai, Kyung Hee University... Van detrás del proyecto.


Y a todo esto, Que es el Kimchi? Creo que todos aquellos que les guste Corea, sabrán de la existencia de este manjar Coreano. Una correlación simbólica con los platos típicos de otras culturas como la paella en España, la pasta Italiana, el Fish&Chips Inglés o el salmón Noruego, salvando las distancias cada uno con sus peculiares sabores y olores. Haré otro post en el futuro sobre el Kimchi, el cual guarda gran simbolismo para los coreanos y su cultura: Fuente de salud, energía, vitalidad y gasto de electricidad :-).

Esta semana andan por España, por 2012 Madrid Fusión. Próxima parada? Creo que la versión Coreana se la han currado más y no ponen exactamente las ciudades donde irán a parar con el Kimchi por el mundo.

La noche de cine Coreana en Londres - Korean Film Night in London

En Londres, ciudad multicultural donde las haya, por experiencia propia, más aún que la propia Nueva York, existe un centro cultural de Corea ( http://london.korean-culture.org/welcome.do ). El centro se encuentra cerca de Charing Cross, a apenas 1 minuto a pie de Trafalgar square donde el Comandante Nelson casi puede observar los Girasoles de Van Gogh en la National Gallery.

En este centro se organiza desde varios años lo que se conoce como "korean film night" cada 15 días donde se puede asistir gratis, haciendo previa reserva por internet, al visionado de una película en su sala multi-usos.

Títulos como Mother (Madeo), Deathbell, Rough Cut o The Chaser han sido proyectados.

La asistencia en el centro es bastante afluente y completan el aforo 2 de cada 3 proyecciones. Hay gente que son fijos en la asistencia por su amor por el cine coreano, bloggers que hacen entradas sobre las películas que ven, gente joven salidos de las colas de los conciertos de K-Pop que se interesan por otras ramas del Hallyu (Termino que se usa para hablar de la cultura coreana) o simplemente curiosos acerca de otras imagenes y otros sentimientos que el cine de lejanas fronteras les puede transmitir.

En mi caso, trato de alimentar ese interés en mi amigo Miguel llevándolo a las proyecciones y poniendo algún que otro DVD en casa. Todo con fomentar el séptimo arte y el Hallyu de Corea.

In London, multicultural city where they exist, from my own experience, even more than New York itself, there is a Korean cultural center (http://london.korean-culture.org/welcome.do). The center is located near Charing Cross, just 1 minutes walk from Trafalgar Square where Nelson Commander can almost see the Van Gogh´s Sunflowers at the National Gallery.

The center organizes for the last few years years what is known as "Korean film night" every 15 days where you can attend free of charge, by prior booking online, the viewing of a film in its multi-purpose room.

Titles like Mother (Madeo), Deathbell, Rough Cut and The Chaser have already showed in its screen.

The Assistance in the center is fairly affluent and full capacity 2 out of 3 projections. People that drop in attendance are from Korean cinema lovers, bloggers who make entries on the movies they watch, young people coming out of the tails of the K-Pop concerts that are interested in other branches of Hallyu (which term is used to talk about Korean culture) or simply curious about other images and other feelings that the film will be transmitted far frontiers.

In my case, I try to nurture that interest in bringing my friend Miguel in to projections and playing in DVD´s at home. All to promote the seventh art and Korean Hallyu.
