Después de volver a Corea, retomo su interés por el cine escribiendo para concursos locales de guiones. En 1993, ganó el mayor premio del Instituto educacional de guionistas por "A Painter and a Criminal Condemned to Death". A esto le siguió en 1994 el tercer premio en la KOFIC (el consejo de cine coreano, por aquel entonces la empresa promotora de películas coreanas) competición de guionistas por "Double Exposure", y el primer premio en la misma competición en 1995 por "Jaywalking"
In 1996, debutó con "Crocodile" y desde entonces ha hecho 16 largometrajes y un documental (Arirang):

Un personaje controvertido en su país, quizás el Almodovar coreano, donde muchos no le entienden sus ideas y visiones mientras otros, menos, adoran y siguen con fervor como es mi caso.
KKD trata temas como el maltrato a la mujer (Bin Jip), la prostitución (Samaritan girl o Bad guy), la pederastia (The Bow)... Temas la mayoría taboos en una sociedad democráticamente joven y aún más tradicional de lo que los extranjeros o "westerns" pensamos. Otros temas por el contrario, están muy bien publicitados como es la proliferación de la cirugía estética (Time) donde la belleza se busca al estilo Nip/tuck (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361217/) para parecerse a las occidentales (pensamiento occidental sobre este fenómeno)... pero este tema será mejor dejarlo para otro post.
